SMTP - User can not send email

Problem

When using SMTP, the user is not able to send mail. The most common error contains the text below:

javax.activation.UnsupportedDataTypeException: no object DCH for MIME type text/plain; charset=us-ascii

This problem is only for SMTP and not Microsoft's Outlook or other OASIS mail options.

Solution

Download and install the JavaMail extensions.

Example - Windows

Download and "unzip" the link below:

http://loadserver2.istadinc.com/OASIS/software/V27-javamail-1.4.2.exe

Please note that the self extractor assumes OASIS has been installed on the C: drive and in the default installation directory. This will vary if the 32 bit version is installed on a 64 bit computer or if the user manally changes the installation directory. In these cases, make sure the files are installed in the following directory (relative to the OASIS installation directory):

\jre\lib\ext

Example - Macintosh

Due to security on the Macintosh, the files must be installed manually. Begin by downloading the following link:

http://loadserver2.istadinc.com/OASIS/software/V27-javamail-1.4.2.zip

You will receive a warning about an application being downloaded - just click "Continue":

When complete, you will have a new folder on your desktop: V27-javamail-1 - open the folder, and prepare to move the contents to another window.

Next open anther finder window and, click on the "Macintosh HD" (your hard drive may have a different name), then navigate to the following folder:

System : Library : Java : Extensions

Return to the previous finder window, selecting all the items. Then drag all the files to the Extensions folder:

This is where the Macintosh's security will kick in:

Click "Authenticate" and key the user/password of an administrator for the computer.

Reopen OASIS and try setting up OASIS to send via SMTP again.
